Guide to the Pyrotechnic Articles (Safety) Regulations 2010

This Guide has been produced jointly by the Explosives Industry Group of the Confederation of British Industry (EIG/CBI) and the Local Authority Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services (LACoRS) with involvement from the British Pyrotechnists Association (BPA) and the Association of Stage Pyrotechnicians (ASP) to provide guidance on certain aspects of the Pyrotechnic Articles (Safety) Regulations 2010.

Guidance for Electrical Installation and Equipment within Explosives Manufacturing and Storage Facilities Including Fireworks

INTRODUCTION
1 The purpose of this publication is to assist those people who are responsible for the design, selection, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment (including mobile mechanical handling equipment) used within premises which manufacture, handle or store explosives including fireworks. The advice given is generally consistent with current guidance issued by the Ministry of Defence’s Explosives and Storage and Transport Committee (ESTC) for military facilities.
2 To assist the reader, buildings and locations used for the manufacture, handling and storage of explosives including fireworks will be referred to in the rest of this document as ‘explosives buildings.

Have your say in drafting the new HSE Event Safety (PURPLE) Guide

Agreement has been reached between the Forum and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to rewrite the Event Safety Guide – better known as the Purple Guide.

While the new guide will not be as comprehensive as the original, focusing mainly on health and safety at events, the EIF is committed to plugging any gaps by producing a series of additional guidances and bringing all these together on one website as a ‘virtual’ guide to event organization.

Currently a Steering Group is being set up with the HSE to direct the project and Working Groups are being put together to draft the different sections. Although some changes may be made in the structure of the new Guide, it is anticipated that this will be much the same as the previous Purple Guide.

The intention is that the process of rewriting the Guide should be as transparent as possible. In order to achieve this progress reports and drafts of each chapter will be available for comment via the EIF website.  Alerts will also be sent out to those registering an interest whenever changes are made to a section.

It is, therefore, important that you register your interests as soon as possible.

Classification Workshop

Please click here to download an invitation to the HSE classification workshop to be held at Centrepoint, London on 29th January 2009 – starting at 10.30.

The workshop is primarily intended for firework importers and manufacturers who classify using the "default" – but may also be of interest to others in the pyrotechnics area.
