Incident at Firework Store - 3rd December 2006

The EIG was very concerned to learn of the deaths of two firefighters attending the incident in Sussex on the 3rd December 2006 and our sympathies go out to the friends and family of all those involved. Whilst it is too early to draw any conclusions as to the cause of the incident the industry would point out that the safety record for the storage of fireworks in the UK is very good and controlled by very strict legislation.

Explosives Incidents Database Advisory Service (EIDAS)

The EIDAS Database contains details of incidents involving explosives and fireworks that have occurred in the UK. Over 100 years of records from explosives accident reports are included. Most of the records on the database prior to 1975 have been encoded from information previously published in the Annual Reports of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Explosives. Details of accidents since 1975 have been taken from HSE records. The database contains much information on the causes and effects of explosives accidents. This information can be valuable in helping identify measures for reducing the risks involved in explosives manufacture, transport, storage and use. It is hoped that this information will be of use in ensuring that these risks are reduced as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).

This site is now almost entirely database driven. This means information on its pages is readilyadded to and edited by designated editors. If you are able to assist EIG by adding to and editing the information presented on these pages please contact EIG direct
