Ron Rapley has been Technical Director of Black Cat/Standard Fireworks for the last ten years. Previously employed in the Health and Safety Executive for fourteen years at HSL Buxton he was responsible for monitoring and assessing all imported and UK produced commercial explosives including fireworks. Ron began his career in explosives at the Ministry of Defence, working for eighteen years on explosives, propellants and initiators at the Explosives Research Establishment at Waltham Abbey.
Ron is Chairman of CII/47, the committee that is responsible for BS 7114, the standard for fireworks in the UK and is the UK delegate leader to CEN/TC 212 the committee that is responsible for the proposed European Standards on Fireworks. He is also chairman of Explosives Industry Group Working Group on Transport of Explosives

Tom Smith
Tom worked for Kimbolton Fireworks Limited for 10 years before setting up Davas Limited as an explosives and database consultancy. Tom is chairman of the EIG Pyrotechnic Subgroup and represents EIG and CBI on a number of Govt bodies including the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Substances, the Major Hazards Sub-Group and the Explosives Subcommittee.
